That's pretty cool. I wonder how well it handles different viewing angles and how much it cost. Still, good to see the glasses-free tech is still developing.

Re: InFocus IN146 projector projects a 60-inch image from 2.5-feet
I wonder what "3D capable" means. Does it come with a transmitter and 3D glasses? If not, are they available separately? Do you have to get them from InFocus?

Re: Acer debuts GN245HQ monitor with HDMI 3D support from NVIDIA
I wonder if 120MHz is enough. It seems that plasma is better than LCD at handling 3D due to the higher refresh rate, so where does that leave a 120Mhz monitor? Will it suffer from ghosting, flickering, crosstalk?

Nope. Not without some kind of huge techno-breakthrough like a lot more viewing angles... ideally any viewing angle!

Re: Sony Announces 3 New BRAVIA TVs (That Are Not 3D)
Not 3D enabled? What are they thinking? :p

Seriously. Adding 3D is just a chip and an transmitter. I think it'd make sense for Sony to cover their bases and include it, even if they don't do a marketing promo for the 3D aspect.

Goodness! LG are releasing cool 3D innovations faster than I can type them up! G-slate looks very impressive. If users need 3D glasses, are they the active-shutter or passive type?

Hopefully we'll see it released in the UK soon.

Very cool. It's interesting that "glasses-free" 3D tech is currently being rolled out to small devices... mobile phones, Nintendo's 3DS, a laptop by Toshiba etc. I wonder when the technology will be scaled up to large TV screens.

Re: Glasses-free 3DTV catches the crowds at CES
>So should you buy a 3D set now? <

Good question. I noted that you posed the question but didn't try to answer it. :)

My answer? It depends on how much you want to experience 3D content. Personally, I think there's a big power struggle at the moment between passive (lightweight glasses), active (heavy, expensive glasses, but Full HD) and glasses-free (not technically ready for consumers).

It'll be interesting to see which tech wins the power struggle. I don't think 3D is going to go away this time, though. Too much is riding on it for Sony et al.

Re: Glasses-free 3D TV set to debut at CES
Glasses-free 3D tech only works at specific viewing angles, which is why they're good for hand-held consoles and laptops which are used individually, but not good, yet, for large-screen TV's with multiple people at multiple viewing angles and distances from the screen.

Very cool. Still, the same problem exists for applying it to 3DTV's... how to get the tech to work for multiple people watching a TV in a room together from different viewing angles.

Re: Clip on lenses solve 3D headaches for spectacle wearers
>The current 3D TV technology, however, requires viewers to wear special glasses with polarised lenses that filter out light coming from different angles. <

Well, that's only true for cinemas, pubs and a few "passive" 3D TV's sold to home consumers. Most 3DTV's sold to home consumers are the active-shutter type, which rely on rapid image changes to create a 3D effect, not polarised light.

Although, LG are starting to push passive displays hard because they don't suffer from the ghosting / crosstalk / flickering that LED/LCD 3DTV's can be prone to.

Interesting. Panasonic seem to be late to the 3D marketing game... so they get an exclusive on the Avatar 3D Blu Ray release, then muscle in on Sky's partnership with LG. Playing catch-up maybe? :)

LG AG-S100 Rechargeable 3D Glasses
http://www.3dtvreviewer.co.uk/ A review of the AG-S100 rechargeable 3D glasses from LG. Although more expensive that regular active shutter glasses, these 3D glasses are rechargeable via a USB port which means you won't have to change the batteries. New to the UK market, the AG-S100 are current 100 pounds per pair.

Samsung UE40C7000 - 3DTV UK News
http://www.3dtvreviewer.co.uk/samsung-ue40c7000-3dtv-available-now-at-john-lewis/2010/05/11/ The Samsung UE40C7000 is the first 3D TV set to be made available to the UK public. It's now on sale at various electrical retailers across the country priced at approximately £1,800. Considering the TV also functions as a Full HD 1080p television, the price isn't a huge premium for the additional ability to watch 3D content.

Panasonic 3DTV Viera Plasmas
http://www.3dtvreviewer.co.uk/ Panasonic have announced two plasma 3D televisions for the UK market, the 50-inch TX-P50VT20E and 65-inch TX-P65VT20E. LG LD920 - The 3DTV Used By Sky For Arsenal v ManU
http://www.3dtvreviewer.co.uk/ Perhaps surprisingly, the 3DTV which LG is using as its launch model in the UK is the 47-inch LD920, as showcased by Sky at 9 pubs in January during the 3D Arsenal versus Manchester United football match. Why surprisingly? Well, despite Sony, Samsung, Nvidia and others pushing the active-shutter glasses technology, the LG LD 920 display uses the same passive polarisation technology and glasses as you most likely used to watch Avatar in the cinema. There are several stories online saying that polarisation technology is only possible using two front projectors, like in the cinema, but, as LG have shown with the LD920, thats not true.

Auto-stereoscopic 3D display at CeBIT 2010
http://www.3dtvreviewer.co.uk/ CeBIT, the annual IT and computer fair held in Hanover, Germany, is being held this year on 2nd March to 6th March 2010. What caught my eye was the announcement by Sunny Oceans, a company based in Singapore, that they will be at CeBIT showing a 27-inch auto-stereoscopic 3D display with 64 possible viewing angles. The main benefit of auto-stereoscopic displays is that you dont need to wear special 3D glasses to see the effect. However, most glasses-free displays suffer from having few optimal viewing angles, usually less than a dozen. The new display uses, 64 individual frames for the different perspectives in each 3D image, and claims, significantly improved 3D quality. Apparently, Sunny Oceans are also, currently developing the worlds first 3D cinema in which the audience will no longer require any special glasses.

Sony's 3DTV, 3D-PS3 and 3D-BluRay Details
http://www.3dtvreviewer.co.uk/ Sony have said that the PS3 can be firmware upgraded to support 3D content, which means that the forthcoming Blu-Ray 3D discs and Playstation 3D games will be compatible with existing Playstation 3 units. Of course, the fact that Sony helped popularize Blu-Ray, sells PS3's which can play Blu-Ray discs as well as PS3 games and has a movie studio (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment) committed to offering 3D Blu-Ray content gives them a lead in selling their 3D TV's!
